SENSIMAT Pressure Management System

The SENSIMAT Pressure Management System consists of a pressure sensor that is inserted inside the wheelchair cushion cover and monitors the pressure exerted on the body of wheelchair user.

Pressure sores are probably the worst condition that can occur to a wheelchair user. Pressure sores can happen very quickly (in hours sometimes) and are especially a risk for those suffering from paraplegia and quadriplegia because due to nerve damage they can't usually tell when too much pressure is being exerted on there skin.

While there can be several contributing factors to the creation of a pressure sore, one of the most effective ways to reduce the chances of developing a pressure sore is for a wheelchair user to shift their weight every 10 or 15 minutes. Because many wheelchair users cannot sense the pressure on their bottoms that signal it's time to weight shift they tend not to weight shift often enough.

The SENSIMAT monitors sitting pressure and can signal the wheelchair user wirelessly through their mobile phone that it's time to weight shift.

The SENSIMAT will also track and record a user's pressure readings throughout the day and allow the user, or their caregivers, to review the day and recognize events where they are more at risk of skin breakdown and help them develop measures to reduce pressure during higher risk activities.

A third feature of this pressure management system is that it can be set up to allow medical professionals to securely log in and remotely monitor their patient's adherence to a relief regimen. Your medical professionals will be notified if you are having trouble with your pressure relief.

I don't normally talk about prices because prices for medical products are normally set by dealers and can vary between dealers and locations but in the case of the the SENSIMAT, for now, can be purchased directly from the SENSIMAT website.

The SENSIMAT can be purchased for just under $800.00 including tax and shipping. If this product can prevent, or even minimize the severity of, a pressure sore, it's an unbelievable bargain in terms of pain and suffering for the patient and medical costs for the governments who are providing treatment.
