New Stair Lift Content

Bruno Stairlift

Bruno Stairlift

I’ve just merged the content from our sister web site Stairlift.ca with the content of the stairlift section of the Mobility Basics site. Because I had stairlift information on two different sites it meant that visitors would have to visit two different sites to in order to see all the information. Now, with all the stairlift.ca information transferred over to the main mobilitybasics.ca site our visitors can access everything in one place.

The Stairlift.ca has now been shut down and people either going directly to the site or finding the site through the search engines will be automaticaly redirected to the same content on the Mobility Basics site.

Anyone looking for stairlift information can access our stair lift section here:  https://mobilitybasics.ca/stair-lift/

Planet Lift Chairs from EZee Life

Mercury Lift Chair from EZee Life

After a bit of a pause in adding new content to the site I’ve just finished adding a section on a new line of lift chairs created by =one of our advertisers.

The Planet line of lift chairs are broken down into 4 sections based on the features each group shares. Among some of the features that make this line of chairs unique are casters to enable easier moving of the chairs, cup holders and trays on two models for the convenience of the user, genuine leather upholstery, vertical elevation and removable arms for transfers to and from beds and incontinent proof upholstery.

Adaptive Clothing

With the addition of Adaptive Clothes as a new advertiser I realised that this is an area that many of my visitors would probably be interested in and put together a short article with information on the different types of products available for those have trouble getting dressed independently.

Adaptive clothing has a variety of properties that make getting dressed much easier for those who have to dress while sitting or lying down and/or are limited in dexterity or range of motion.

Jazzy® Elite ES Portable Power Wheelchair

Pride Elite ES power wheelchair

Jazzy® Elite ES

I’ve just added a new article in the website power wheelchair section on the Jazzy® Elite ES portable Power Wheelchair. The Elite ES is different than many other portable power wheelchairs in that it is a front wheel drive design that has a very small turning radius for exceptional maneuverability indoors or in tight areas.

While most portable power wheelchairs are designed to fold for loading into vehicles and for easy storage the Elite ES can be dis-assembled into 4 pieces with the heaviest piece weighing about 48 pounds.

Website Encryption

PadlockThis past week I’ve been working on making the MobilityBasics website an encrypted website. Although we do not collect any information from our visitors, do not sell any products and don’t have any payment gateways there are a few good reasons for encrypting the site for the peace of mind of our visitors.

Many websites these days are fully encrypting their sites in an effort to make the web more secure and Google will be rewarding them, in the future, by ranking them higher than non-encrypted sites. I believe full encryption is a good idea for all sites and haven’t waited for it to become the norm before encrypting Mobilitybasics.ca. It’s good for you and it’s good for me. Continue reading

Website Compression

I’ve recently been looking at ways that I can improve the site for my visitors and improve the quality of the site. Enabling website compression is the first of these updates.

Gzip

MobilityBasics website is now being compressed using gzip. Gzip for those who don’t know, or possibly care, is a compression system used to compress files including web pages and graphics.

I’m no expert in this but as I understand it when you try to access the Mobilitybasics website now your device will be notified that the site is available in a compressed form. If your device is capable of accessing a compressed web page it will display the compressed version. If you device cannot access a compressed page the original uncompressed page will be displayed on your device.

Hand Controls

MPD 4220 Hand Controls

MPD 4220 Hand Controls

Hand controls are devices installed in vehicles that allow those who are not able to use the gas and brake pedals the ability to drive. There are a variety of designs and styles that offer some variations in function to meet the needs of the individual user.

They can be set up for right-handed or left-handed use but must only be installed in vehicles with automatic transmissions and power steering.

I have just finished posting an article in the vehicle equipment section of Mobility Basics on hand controls. For more information please visit http://mobilitybasics.ca/vehicle-equipment/vehicle-hand-controls

Pedal Extenders

MPD Pedal Extensions

MPD Pedal Extensions

Having short legs not only can make driving difficult it can also put the driver in danger of serious injury if they are involved in an accident. Many people are injured every year by air bags that deploy if they are sitting too close to the steering wheel. It is recommended that drivers should have less than 10″ from their chest to the steering wheel to avoid air bag injuries.

Pedal extenders allow drivers with shorter legs to sit further back from the steering wheel of their vehicle while still being able to reach the gas and brake pedals.

I have just finished posting a short article in the vehicle equipment section of Mobility Basics on pedal extenders. For more information please visit http://mobilitybasics.ca/vehicle-equipment/pedal-extenders

Turning Seats Update

I’ve just updated the turning seat section of Mobilitybasics.ca with information on a couple of products from a Canadian company, Adapt Solutions.

XL-Base

XL-Base

XL-Base

The first product is for their XL-Base. The Xl-Base converts a conventional van seat into a turning seat that will turn and lower users out of the van and features a manual backup system in case of lose of power or malfunction.

The XL-Base reuses the original van seat and mounting holes so that no damage or modifications are done to the van that will affect the resale value of the van.

This turning seat system can be mounted in either the front or mid passenger position of most of todays popular minivans.

The second product is the XL-Seat which is a transfer device that aids wheelchair users in accessing and exiting the front seats of vans, pickup trucks, SUVs and some crossovers.

The XL-Set folds up between the seat and the door when not in use and the transfer board part of it is removable for easier access by people who don’t need a transfer device.

The XL-Seat is mounted using existing the vehicle seat mounting system and does not damage or modify the vehicle in any permanent way.

Evacuscape Rescue Chair

Evacuscape Rescue Chair ImageI’ve added the Evacuscape Evacuation Chair to the New and Unique Products section of the MobilityBasics.ca website.

The Evacuscape rescue chair is a lightweight wheeled chair that caregivers and emergency workers can use to transport mobility impaired people down staircases in the case of an emergency where the elevators can not be used.

The use of an evacuation chair reduces the chances of injury for both the user and those assisting in their evacuation.
